Silent solidarity with postwoman Elaine

Postal, Equalities

A group of CWU activists are urging members, friends and supporters to donate their cash to help fund vitally important treatment for a Preston postal worker with multiple sclerosis.

Elaine Dalgleish, a postwoman from Preston, was diagnosed with the neurological condition three years ago and sadly her health has deteriorated further over the past 12 months, to the extent that she now needs assistance with many everyday tasks.

Stem Cell treatment trials are taking place and there is a possible cure for certain types of multiple sclerosis, which Elaine could potentially participate in, but this pioneering treatment is only available in a hospital in Russia and the cost has been estimated at £40,000.

As well as making a significant donation to Elaine’s appeal, members of the CWU’s women’s advisory committee are holding a sponsored silence today 14thAugust and are urging the whole CWU family to rally round and donate to help Elaine.

Speaking yesterday, committee chair Jean Sharrocks said: “Please sponsor us to help this lady. The money raised is strictly to pay for the treatment, as Elaine’s family are paying for any travel & accommodation.”
