Sapphire Tech Workers Win Union Recognition in Just Six Months
Technology, Tech, UTAW September 23 2025In a stunning show of solidarity, the managed services team at Sapphire have won union recognition in just six months without even needing a ballot.
From the very beginning, workers built their campaign on conversations, trust, and a shared determination to change the way things were done at Sapphire. Within half a year, they had already secured an overwhelming majority of colleagues in support of union recognition there. The message to management is crystal clear: when workers stand together, recognition isn’t optional, it’s inevitable.
“Winning recognition this fast shows what’s possible when people stick together, through simply starting a conversation with a few colleagues about the challenges we faced, we found out these issues were team-wide” said one worker involved in the campaign. “We are proof that in tech – just like anywhere else – when workers are united, we can win and have a voice in the workplace.”
Recognition is more than a legal milestone. It means Sapphire workers now have a formal voice at work, the ability to negotiate on pay and conditions, and the power to hold management accountable. For an industry often marked by precarious contracts, high turnover, and opaque decision-making, this win is a landmark step forward.
The victory also adds to a growing wave of organising across our sector, where workers are increasingly standing up for better pay, fair treatment, and ethical accountability in the industry.
For Sapphire workers, this is only the beginning. With recognition secured, these workers are now preparing for the next phase: negotiating a strong first pay deal and continuing to build their organisation.
Their success sends a clear message across the industry: organising works and tech workers are no exception.
We are proud to have supported Sapphire workers in their fight for union recognition. We look forward to more wins from them in the future!
