MP’s Line Up to Support the CWU’s #CloseTheGap Campaign for Agency Workers Justice

Telecoms & Financial Services, Manpower UK Ltd (BT contract)

Following the successful tour of events that kicked off the Close The Gap Campaign where we travelled the length and breadth of the UK, 16 BT sites in all including Dundee, Belfast, Bangor & Truro engaging with our Manpower members and protesting against the use of Pay Between Assignment contracts,  the campaign has now moved on to a more political side with Phase 2  being launched on the 19 December at Westminster Green, London,  SW1.

Senior CWU officers, Regional Secretaries, Branches and Manpower members attended to speak to a number of MP’s  who came out to speak to us with the main aim of  highlighting the exploitation of the use of PBA contracts and why the time is now right to change the law and bring this injustice to an end.

The event was timely as it had just been announced that 2 House of Commons Select Committees have recommended the end of Pay Between Assignment contracts otherwise known as the Swedish Derogation which is the rule within the Agency Worker Regulations that exempt agency workers from equal pay.

The MP’s that attended the CWU Phase 2 launch were as follows:

Mike Amesbury (Weaver Vale)

Julie Elliott (Sunderland Central)

Karen Lee (Lincoln)

Hugh Gaffney (Coatbridge, Chryston and Bellshill)

John Grogan (Keighley)

Carolyn Harris (Swansea East)

Emma Lewell-Buck (South Shields)

Gareth Snell (Stoke-on-Trent Central)

Cat Smith (Lancaster and Fleetwood)

Laura Smith (Crewe and Nantwich)

Rosie Winterton (Doncaster Central)
