Mitie members gain ‘£8000 per member’ pay bump
Tech, UTAW March 25 2026
Newly unionised CWU members at Mitie have won an “historic” 22.5% wage increase.
The members, who work as remote engineers for the outsourcing giant, have gained a 22.5% wage increase across the board.
In practice, this will mean an £8000 wage increase for every member.
The team, who are based across northern Ireland, have been steadily building their union membership over the past year.
After securing the majority of the workforce, the union approached Mitie, who accepted the formal recognition of the CWU’s United Tech and Allied Workers (UTAW) branch.
After promptly entering into pay negotiations, employers and workers’ representatives worked on a deal.
At the close of play, the deal was overwhelmingly accepted on a 100% turnout.
CWU tech national officer John Chadfield said: “This deal is an historic pay rise for workers at Mitie.
“At a time when the cost of living is still so high and the economy is so unpredictable, this pay increase will no doubt be a huge source of comfort.
“Hopefully, this increase will demonstrate that at any workplace, a united group of workers demanding meaningful improvements to their livelihoods can be a force no employer can ignore.
“I would like to pay tribute to this set of workers for their determination, as well as their representatives – without such strength and organisation, this result wouldn’t have happened.”
