Marathon man Iain running for veterans and air ambulance

Postman Iain Pad-Jowett has raised £500 for good causes after running both the London Marathon and The Great North Run.

Iain, who works out of Leyburn Delivery Office in the North Yorkshire Dales, previously served in the Royal Engineers and Logistics Corps and so one of the two charities he supports is the British Legion.

“They do a great job helping veterans, especially those who live with disabilities and it’s personal to me that I want to try to help them in my way,” he explains.

And the other cause which Iain raises money for with his running is the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, which is, he says: “Absolutely vital, especially in a rural area like this.

“When I’m out on delivery, I sometimes wonder if anything happened to me in a remote location, or if I saw someone else who needed emergency assistance – it’s a service that’s essential.

“So, if I’m able to raise money with my runs, I split it 50/50 between these two.”

With both of these two events taking place within a couple of weeks of each other, Iain was “aching and stiff” after completing last weekend’s run in the capital.

“My wife and I stayed overnight in London – and I had a nice long soak in the bath in the evening. It was great fun, but mostly it’s important to me to try to help my fellow veterans as well as the Yorkshire air ambulance and the brilliant job they do.

“My colleagues at Leyburn Delivery Office have been fantastic and thanks to everyone who’s donated, as well as to Royal Mail for their donation.”
