#ENDGAME is the fight to defend the interests of members in BT Facilities Services following BT’s announcement that it intends to outsource the division – leaving 1,700 CWU represented grade employees facing a very uncertain future.

With its key message to BT to ‘Stop Playing Games’ with the livelihoods of loyal employees, the #ENDGAME campaign highlights the inconsistency of a move which flies in the face of BT’s 2012 decision to bring the division back in-house after a previous decade-long flirtation with outsourcing was judged to have comprehensively failed.

Many of our members in BTFS already have first-hand experience of experience of working for a third-party supplier and, given the poor track record of outsourcing companies on labour and service standards – along with the recent demise of Carillion – the CWU is arguing the case for retaining Facilities Services and its employees in-house is just as relevant today as it was in 2012.

The union believes re-outsourcing the division would not just present huge risks to members’ Ts&Cs and job security, but that it also could result in reputational harm to BT and a reduction in facilities services provided to the company due to the low-cost operation models and questionable employment practices common to the outsourcing sector.

As well as campaigning against the outsourcing the CWU has laid down a number of objectives that the union is insisting BT must meet in full on behalf of all 1,700 CWU-represented grade employees affected – including around 770 housekeepers (cleaners) and grounds maintenance staff, nearly 700 general technicians and engineers and 210 security officers.

Those demands include cast-iron commitments to job security, contractual hours, protection of hard-won Real Living Wage levels for housekeepers and security officers, as well as a full trade union recognition agreement.
