Telefonica Transfer of Radio and Core NOC Activities to Ericsson Ltd

05 October 2018

Issue No. 11/2018

TO ALL BRANCHES WITH TELEFONICA MEMBERS

Dear Colleague,

Telefonica Transfer of Radio and Core NOC Activities to Ericsson Ltd.

Telefonica has opened consultation with the CWU on its proposals to transfer its radio and core NOC activities to Ericsson Ltd. This involves the traditional network monitoring work and will affect 56 employees (including managers) of which 37 are General Population grades at Slough and Harlow.

It is understood that the contract has already been signed with Ericsson who will deliver most of the current NOC tasks offshore for the next four years. No one is expected to transfer with the work.

Their proposal is to upskill and redeploy the majority of the NOC team into the wider SPMC team, primarily into the Customer Insight Team, the VIP team and the Performance team with new roles being created that will be ring fenced for those directly impacted. However, the business are also giving people the option of applying for Discretionary Voluntary Redundancy (DVR). The new SPMC will operate primarily out of Slough, as that is where the C-SOC is already located following its set up in April 2016.

The CWU are currently in discussion on what this means for the people impacted and the suitability of the alternative roles. It is understood that the microsite with all the options (including DVR) will go live week commencing Tuesday, 09 October 2018 and that individuals will have until the end of Tuesday 30 October, 2018 to express a preference.

Finally, it will be my intention to arrange a meeting at Slough and Harlow to discuss the issues with the membership and I will be in touch shortly with some meeting dates.

Meanwhile any questions should be addressed to your local representative Paul Davies, Paul.Davies2@telefonica.com

Yours sincerely
