BT Technology – TUPE of Mainframes Service to IBM

EMBARGOED UNTIL 11:30 AM ON TUESDAY 14 JANUARY 2020

TO ALL BRANCHES WITH BT TECHNOLOGY MEMBERS

Dear Colleagues,

BT Technology – TUPE of Mainframes Service to IBM

BT Technology has informed the CWU that they have entered into a 5-year contract with IBM to manage the mainframe service which will result in 33 Team Member roles transferring to IBM on 01 April 2020.

This announcement follows an in-depth review by the business to identify the best model for the mainframe to address a significant sustainability issue they have had for some time where they have struggled to retain skills and fill vacancies.

The CWU will be meeting with the business tomorrow to open formal consultation via the TUPE process. However, due to the rumours and speculation that has been circulating on this announcement we have already written to management to complain at the way these rumours have already caused confusion and concern amongst the membership.

Whilst this announcement will clear up this speculation we appreciate that these are unsettling times and management should have dealt with this more professionally.

The CWU will keep you updated as the consultation progresses and a further report will be provided later this week.

Please find attached a copy of the Briefing pack used in the announcement and the FAQ document.

Any questions or queries should be addressed to sabridge@cwu.org

Yours sincerely,

Sally Bridge
